Honeybush Organic

Honeybush is a cousin of Rooibos, cultivated in South Africa's Eastern Cape region. Its flowers smell of honey, which gives this plant it’s sweet name.

Honeybush tea is a naturally caffeine-free infusion from South Africa, closely related to rooibos. The flavour is similar to rooibos but slightly sweeter, with a smooth, full-bodied character and gentle honey like notes. Rich in antioxidants and low in tannins, honeybush makes a soothing cup at any time of day. Its naturally sweet profile means it can be enjoyed on its own without added sugar, hot or iced.

Honeybush has been used for treating coughs, because of its content of pinotol (found in Pine trees) which is an expectorant. Pinitol has also been shown to lower blood sugar in laboratory animal studies and is being considered as a drug for diabetes. Honeybush also contains flavones which can be used to reduce blood lipids and alleviate menopausal symptoms.
